Medical Specialities
At the Rican Veterinary Centre, located in the Prosperidad neighbourhood of Madrid, we take a comprehensive, up-to-date approach to veterinary medicine, committed to the genuine well-being of each pet. Thanks to our experience since 1993 and our fully equipped facilities, we can offer a complete range of specialities, all geared towards prevention, early diagnosis and effective treatment.
General Consultation
The general consultation is the foundation of good veterinary medicine. Many diseases manifest themselves with subtle signs that the owner may not identify as cause for concern. Changes in behaviour, appetite or habits can be the first sign that something is wrong. At our clinic, we perform a complete examination of the patient and assess whether it is necessary to proceed with additional tests.
Internal Medicine
Detecting a disease in its early stages is key to providing effective treatment. In our internal medicine consultations, we address complex pathologies that affect the functioning of organs and systems: renal, hepatic, respiratory, digestive, immunological, or endocrine diseases. The goal is to diagnose accurately and apply the most appropriate treatment as soon as possible.
Preventive Medicine
From two months of age, we work on active prevention. We establish vaccination schedules for dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits and other exotic pets, adapted to their lifestyle. We perform deworming, annual check-ups, vector disease tests (such as canine leishmaniasis) and send automatic reminders to keep your pet’s health up to date.
General Surgery
We have a fully equipped operating theatre and advanced monitoring equipment to perform soft tissue, trauma, digestive, reproductive, oncological and corrective surgery. From sterilisations to complex procedures. Always with pre-operative protocol, post-operative care and personalised follow-up.
Hospitalisation
Some treatments require continuous observation. We offer day hospitalisation in comfortable, safe and controlled conditions. Ideal for patients requiring fluid therapy, intravenous medication, oxygen therapy or post-operative monitoring.
Exotic Animals
We treat birds, reptiles, rodents, ferrets, and rabbits with an approach tailored to their specific physiological needs. We offer general medicine, vaccinations, deworming, surgery, and advice on feeding, housing, and prevention of common diseases.
Cardiology
We examine and treat congenital or acquired heart conditions, such as heart failure, arrhythmias, and degenerative heart disease. We perform electrocardiograms and Doppler echocardiograms, and monitor treatment with regular check-ups.
Dermatology
The skin reflects overall health. We diagnose skin problems of infectious, allergic, endocrine or parasitic origin. We use tests such as scrapings, cytologies, biopsies or allergy panels and offer personalised treatments, including auto-vaccines if necessary.
Digestive
Diarrhoea, vomiting, gas, abdominal pain… Digestive symptoms can have many causes. We study each case in depth to detect infections, intolerances, foreign bodies, tumours or inflammatory diseases.
Endocrinology
We treat hormonal disorders such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, Cushing’s syndrome and other endocrine diseases. We diagnose using specific tests and prescribe the treatment that best suits your pet.
Neurology
We assess neurological symptoms such as disorientation, seizures, behavioural or mobility disorders. We diagnose inflammatory, degenerative or structural problems and apply treatments to improve quality of life
Obstetrics

Dentistry
We perform dental cleanings, extractions, and periodontal treatments. Oral health prevents systemic infections and improves your pet’s overall well-being.
Ophthalmology
Diagnosis and treatment of cataracts, conjunctivitis, ulcers, glaucoma and other common eye conditions. We assess whether local or systemic treatment is required and monitor progress.
Oncology
Detecting a tumour early can change the prognosis. We perform aspirations, biopsies, oncological surgeries and apply chemotherapy protocols when necessary. We evaluate each case honestly.
Paediatrics
Puppies need special care. We treat common conditions in the early stages and offer guidance on feeding, vaccinations, worming and socialisation.
Geriatrics
From the age of 7–8 onwards, geriatric check-ups enable us to detect kidney, heart, joint or cognitive diseases at an early stage. We carry out tailored check-ups and design customised monitoring plans.
Traumatology
We treat fractures, dysplasias, dislocations and ligament tears. We recommend conservative or surgical treatment depending on the case and carry out functional monitoring and rehabilitation if necessary.
Urology
Diagnosis and treatment of urinary and reproductive system problems: infections, stones, phimosis, prolapses, malformations, tumours. We prioritise early diagnosis and appropriate medical or surgical management.
Pain Unit
We actively manage pain in chronic, post-surgical, or degenerative conditions. We use pharmacology, rehabilitation techniques, physical therapies, and environmental management.
Nutrition and dietetics
We recommend specific diets according to species, age, body condition and pathologies. We advise on physiological and therapeutic nutrition.
Holistic Medicine
Integrative Holistic Medicine. We combine conventional medicine with therapies such as phytotherapy, homeopathy, and acupuncture in cases where appropriate. Always from a wellness-based approach.
Ethology
We assess behavioural problems and address them from a behavioural medicine perspective. We diagnose, rule out physical causes and propose clear therapeutic guidelines.
Veterinary Certificates
We issue official certificates for travel, transfers, potentially dangerous animals, or administrative requirements.
Expert reports and forensic medicine
Expert interventions, autopsies, clinical reports for legal proceedings and assessments in cases of animal abuse.
Services
All our consultations include a comprehensive examination, individual assessment and, where appropriate, planning of tests or treatments, always explained step by step.
VETERINARY CLAIMS
Modification of a rigid and ineffective prescription system. The use of most antibiotics requires culture, which is an added cost. Presvet bureaucracy.
Veterinarians must be able to dispense the complete and necessary treatments, no more and no less.
Animal health is not a luxury. No to 21% VAT.
The authorities must listen to veterinarians.
